My Logitech LX7 mouse needed a reset
Yes, this is your source for current, relevant news. I have a Logitech LX7 cordless mouse, which I use on a Mandriva Linux system. Sometimes I like to spend time trying to figure out which driver is best for it, because it zips around much too fast for me and the K control centre and xset don't do anything to it most of the time. I say most of the time, because I was convinced one change I made to xorg.conf had xset working. But Mandriva "fixes" my xorg.conf for me. Aside: my Logitech MX510 corded optical mouse works like a dream under Mandriva, and is my favourite mouse ever; I just don't like that it's tied down. I should write here what I've tried in xorg.conf for the LX7, and what I've come across on the web, but what I'm actually going to do right now is note down that I just had a problem with this mouse, and it had an easy fix.
When I booted up yesterday, the computer didn't register anything when I clicked the mouse buttons. My first thought was that my X config or a driver might have changed, but I plugged it into the eeepc (which is running Cooker), and the buttons didn't work there either. Mouse motion on the screen was normal. I was about to try swapping for fresh batteries when I spotted the "reset" button on the bottom. Pressed it and the buttons work again.
To watch: batteries in this thing are seven or eight months old. I never explicitly turn it off. If this is a sign that it's time to change them, I'm not going to feel ripped off.
